Fender Modern Player Marauder Lake Placid Blue 2011

Fender Modern Player Marauder, made in China 2011, lake placid blue. The Marauder was initially a prototype, made briefly in 1965 and envisioned as a 'top of the line' deluxe offset. It was gone by 1966 and never really made it into production, until 45 years later the design was re-worked and released as part of the sometimes wacky but always fun Modern Player series. You get a slightly pointier offset shape paired with a full scale slim C neck; it feels quick and slick in the hands. The neck pickup is a conventional Jazzmaster single coil; it sounds great and offers a heap of clarity. The 'Triplebucker' bridge pickup is... good for a laugh. It's also good in the conventional sense; there's a lot of fun to be had. The 5-way switch allows the Triplebucker to be split up a few ways: trad humbucker, all three coils at once, the middle coil as a single coil, the closest coil paired with the neck pickup, as well as a neck only position. There's a lot to like; the HB sound is grindy and growly and the all-three-coils position offers a certain midrange honk and bite that's a lot of fun. Needless to say, it also looks awesome, no?
