Fender Japan TL72 Partscaster Butterscotch Blonde 1989
Fender Partscaster, blonde, made in Japan. I buy a lot of guitars sight-unseen from Japan, and mostly, I know exactly what I'm getting. This one arrived, and wasn't quite what I thought: it's a Fender Japan TL72-55 neck, with an E serial number dating it to 1986-8, but the body and other parts are not original. The body looks like basswood, although it's a little hard to tell, and has had an elbow carve and belly carve sliced in; it makes it lighter and more comfy to hold and play, if a little quirky. The bridge has classy compensated saddles, and there's a nice pair of pickups on deck, including a Noiseless neck pickup. The sound is crisp and immediate, with plenty of attack and presence; classic Tele-twang abounds. If you were to buy the neck on this separately, you'd likely pay around $750, so you're getting a whole lot of guitar thrown in for not much extra cash, and it really does all sit together and play nicely.
