Burny FLG-70 'L*s P*ul Model' Black 1976
Burny FLG-70, black, made in Japan 1976. Burny falls under the Fernandes umbrella, one of Japan's most successful guitar dynasties for many decades, traditionally offering Gibson-style models to the local market. Back in 1976, Yamaha and Greco's set neck LP offerings started at ¥50,000, but Burny's baseline model was higher end, with a price tag of ¥70,000, which was around 60% of a graduate monthly salary in Japan at the time. The woodwork is very good, with high grade mahogany under the hood and gorgeous dark rosewood on show for the board. At 4.4kg, it's a moderate weight for an unchambered example, and the natural resonance and sustain are exemplary. The pickups deliver a dark, syrupy voice, with rich mids, thick bass and a smooth top end. The black finish is subtle, but with the aged cream binding and uncovered pickups, this certainly has a sleek, mean look. Mean, for a guitar that says 'Bunny' on the headstock, that is.
