TMG Guitar Co Gatton Aged Fiesta Red 2014
TMG Gatton, medium aged fiesta red, made in USA 2014. TMG Guitars launched in the mid 2010s and enjoyed an explosion in popularity, before the founder Taylor McGrath hit some speedbumps and sold to Jonathan Brosnan, a new builder who re-built the whole show from the ground up and has consistently delivered brilliant guitars since. This one is references the classic Telecaster models of the '50s and '60s, delivering a vintage flavourto a very high modern standard. It's a '62 style wood combo: maple neck, rosewood slab board, swamp ash body. It's reasonably light for an ash body, and resonates with gusto unplugged. The neck is a vintage C style shape, not super skinny but also not exactly fat; it's easy to get along with and the aged finish on the back feels amazing. The fiesta red body has a generous dose of checking lines and standard play wear, it looks very cool indeed. The tone is very full: thick and fast down low with a piano-like strong fundamental note, airy and complex through the mids and a sweet slicing chime on top: amazing balance, wonderfully responsive, very convincing. This is better than most Fender CS examples I've played from a feel and tone angle. What an enjoyable instrument.
