Maton JB4 Fretless Bass Satin Tobacco Burst 2014
Maton JB4 Fretless, made in Melbourne 2014. This model is a reissue of the cult favourite JB4 (or Jumbuck) model from the late 70s, which found favour with some very famed players in it's time. The reissues are very faithful to the original design, save for a couple of hardware changes. The sassafrass body is not the heavy, streaky species from Tasmania, but a lightweight species favoured by Maton founder Bill May specifically for bass bodies. The tone is certainly all there: growly, warm, thick, full and punchy... it's got a certain earthiness mixed with a definite bite. The fretless ebony board is perfectly smooth under the fingers, it's a delightful thing to play. The satin finish will quickly wear in with a few hours play, it's currently looking almost brand new. This is a charming and striking bass, it's sure to win many admirers!

Cosmetic condition notes: Negligible finish wear. There's some very light play-wear scratches above and below the strings and one long but barely noticeable scratch on the back, really barely anything. Overall: excellent condition (9/10).
Playing condition notes: Action is low, neck is straight, intonation is good. No frets, so no fretwear to discuss. All electrics tested and working properly. Playing with a heap of character!
