Martin D-35 Dreadnought Acoustic Natural 1979

Martin D-35, made in USA 1979, natural gloss finish. Martin & Co debuted the D-28 in 1931, and it did very well: finally, an acoustic guitar that could keep up with a banjo or resonator in terms of volume and punch. The D-35 launched in 1965, and it's basically the same guitar, but with a gorgeous three-piece rosewood back. The model did very well in Japan especially, riding the wave of a huge uptick in folk music in the 1970s and 80s. This one dates to 1979, right in the middle of that era, and it's weathered the decades in style. The neck is straight, the frets are good, the binding has yellowed but is in good shape, the top is flat, the bridge is still attached perfectly.... it's in great shape. There's some checking lines on the neck and top and a bit of natural play wear, but it really does look and feel fantastic. The neck is a soft-V shape with a gorgeous ebony board, it feels very agreeable in the hands. The sound is perfect Martin punch: loud, super weighty bass, expansive glossy highs, eloquent smooth mids. It's amazing for fingerstyle stuff, with a super fast clear attack lending detail to every note. Chords sound fantastic too, with a warbling complexity and warmth that you'll never get from a new guitar. This would absolutely hold it's own as a working player, both live and in studio, and is surely destined to be somebody's family heirloom one day soon too. Proper!
