Gibson Les Paul Junior Vintage Sunburst 1991
Gibson Les Paul Junior, USA 1991, sunburst. There's a few versions of the Junior out there, but this one is probably my favourite: the early 90s edition. It shares some DNA with the 50s model: mahogany slab body, single dog-ear pickup, simple electronics. You get those things, but you also get a super sturdy Tune-O-Matic bridge with a stoptail, mini Grover kidney bean tuners and a noiseless P-100 pickup. sensible stuff in my books. At a whsiuker under 4kg, it's a lot lighter than aa regular LP Standard, but on the chunky side for a Junior. That, combined with the great hardware makes for a super strong, punchy tone. You get a ripping attack with heaps of low end kick, growly mids with a creamy smoothness and an expansive, musical treble. It's glorious into a dirty Marshall, life is so good. The finish looks suitably aged and mellowed, with a nice mix of checking lines, scuffs and fading all attesting to the years and riffs on the clock. The neck is a quick, slim sixties style shape; super agreeable in my books. This is a whole lot of fun.
