Brian by Bacchus BJB-380 Fiesta Red 1998
Brian by Bacchus BJB-380, Fiesta Red, made in Taiwan 1998. He's not the messiah, he's a very naughty boy. Fellow MIJ-enthusiasts will likely be familiar with Bacchus guitars, the Deviser-imprint with a long history of finely crafted guitars from Aska in Japan. In 1998, Bacchus launched an offshoot called Brian, which was their first attempt to replicate their stringent quality standards at facilities outside Japan. They made some excellent instruments, although the brand was done within a year or two, replaced in due course by the Global and Universe series. This is a Jazz Bass style offering, and it's pretty great: slim fast neck, tight and tidy build, good fret and finish work. The sound is snappy and clear with plenty of low end thump and a snarly midrange. The red is great too, it's vibrant and optimistic. And, it says 'Brian' in giant gold letters on the headstock... perfect, surely?
